A leading merchant bank asked us to create numerous digital assets to help create a more interactive and personalised banking experience for its customers. Included in this new digital launch, we implemented an AR experience I helped work on.
I was tasked with creating five AR experiences which were a very similar idea to my previous work; animating butterflies for a Swiss Industrial and Manufacturing Company. However, as opposed to scanning a QR code and looking at image targets and butterflies appearing, it would be hummingbird’s indigenous to the area.
To save time for the quick turnaround, we sourced a free 3D model of a hummingbird. As we needed several different species, I manually painted each base colour texture four times. I really enjoyed this texturing method; painting the plumage colours to match the native hummingbirds.
The 3D model of the hummingbird needed some clean up ready for AR, as well as the addition of a flying animation. Luckily, the model already came with a hovering animation, helping speed up the entire process. All I had to do was create four spline paths and then manually tweak keyframes. I watched dozens of videos of how hummingbirds fly in order to accurately animate to the best of my ability.
